Nov 22, 2015 · Insight into Endoscopic Balloon Dilatation for Crohn's Disease

I have not had an endoscopic dilation but have had a balloon dilation through a colonoscopy. It is certainly a breeze to go through in comparison to surgery. However, even with remicade therapy I had only a few months relief from my stricture. Still a huge benefit to have some relief from my Crohn’s disease. Especially that I have already had multiple surgeries and there weren’t many options years ago as this to avoid more. In 35 years of having this disease the progress is hopeful.

Allergic to sulfur drugs and been maintained with 6-MP. Has worked for me. However, I have also done Remicade and Humira. I have always relapsed at some point after stopping treatments. I have always had a severe case of Crohn’s and every side effect to go with it. I suffer as much from side effects as from bowel degeneration. So I’m not sure if I’ve ever really had complete remission.

30 year Crohn’s patient with chronic fistulitis. Anal, vaginal/groin, peri-anal have all been treated and even had drains inserted but the tracks still inflame and drain. Exciting to hear of new treatment available. Thank you for the research.

Over a span of 30 years of severe Crohn’s disease I have obtained remission numerous times both with and without meds. Currently on no meds but have a partial obstruction due to adhesions from prior surgery. This disease never seems to end.
